Measure live environmental decibel (dB) levels instantly.
Protect your hearing and measure environmental noise instantly. Our free sound meter transforms your browser into a powerful mic db counter.
More than just a simple number, our loudness meter features a real-time rolling graph. This allows you to visually track transient spikes in noise (like a door slamming or a dog barking) and monitor the overall trend of your environment.
Prolonged exposure to sounds above 85 decibels can cause permanent hearing damage. You can use this decibel test to check if your workplace, music studio, or headphones are operating within safe volumes. Stay in the green zone!
When you click "Start", the tool requests access to your microphone. It uses the Web Audio API to calculate the Root Mean Square (RMS) of the incoming audio signal. This mathematical value is then mapped to a standard Decibel (dB) scale, giving you a live readout of the sound db.
Our algorithm is highly precise, but true absolute accuracy depends on your hardware. Different laptops and smartphones have different microphone sensitivities and built-in noise-canceling chips. This tool is exceptionally good for measuring *relative* loudness (e.g., finding the quietest room in a house or checking if a machine is getting louder over time).
No, your privacy is fully protected. The db meter only processes the mathematical volume level of the sound. It does not record, save, or transmit the actual audio of your voice to any server.
